Plain English, Promise

What exactly is a fixed indexed annuity?

An FIA is a retirement vehicle issued by an insurance carrier. Instead of a flat rate, your interest is calculated from the movement of a market index. Up years credit you a share of the gain; down years credit you nothing, and nothing is exactly the point: your balance never goes backward. Each credited gain locks in as a new floor. It is designed for the money that must be there when you retire.

Why go independent?
A captive agent can only sell you one company. I compare top rated carriers side by side and get paid the same either way, so the winner is whoever treats you best.

Why People Choose It

Built in advantages.

Index Linked Growth

Capture a share of market gains without owning market risk.

Hard Floor at Zero

Down markets credit zero. Principal and past gains stay locked.

Annual Reset

Gains lock in each term and become the new protected floor.

Lifetime Income Riders

Optional riders convert the balance into guaranteed income for life.

Tax Deferred

No taxes on growth until you withdraw, so compounding works harder.

Spousal Continuity

Joint options keep income flowing for a surviving spouse.

Is It Right For You?

An FIA is worth a look if...

  • You like market growth but hate market losses
  • You are protecting a 401(k) or IRA as retirement nears
  • You want gains locked in, permanently
  • You may want guaranteed lifetime income later
  • You have savings that must not shrink
  • You want tax deferred compounding outside the market

Common Questions

Answers, before you even ask.

What is a fixed indexed annuity?

A fixed annuity whose interest is linked to the performance of a market index. When the index rises, your account is credited a share of the gain. When the index falls, you are credited zero, never a loss. Your principal and every past gain are locked in.

Can I lose money in an FIA?

Not to market declines. The worst market year credits you zero, and your principal plus previously credited interest stay locked. Early withdrawals beyond the free amount during the surrender period can carry charges, which I map out before you commit.

How do caps and participation rates work?

Carriers credit index gains through a cap (a maximum credited rate) or a participation rate (a percentage of the gain). These are the levers that decide how much upside you capture, and comparing them across carriers is exactly the work I do for you.

How is an FIA different from investing in the market?

Investing captures full market upside and full market downside. An FIA trades some upside for a hard floor at zero. It is not a stock market replacement; it is where you put money you cannot afford to lose while still letting it grow.

Does an FIA offer lifetime income?

Yes. Most FIAs offer income riders that turn the account into guaranteed payments for life, single or joint. Some include benefits that increase income if you later need help with daily living activities.

Is a fixed indexed annuity right for me?

It fits people who want growth potential without market risk, typically within fifteen years of retirement or already retired. If your goals point elsewhere, I will tell you plainly and recommend what actually fits.
