What is Medicare?

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people 65 and older and for some younger people with disabilities. It comes in parts: Part A covers hospital care, Part B covers medical care, Part D covers prescription drugs, and private Medicare Advantage or Supplement plans shape how much you pay out of pocket. My job is matching those pieces to your doctors, medications, and budget.

Medicare, Handled End to End

Eight ways I make Medicare make sense.

Turning 65 Guidance

Your Initial Enrollment Period mapped out early, so you never face a late penalty.

Advantage vs. Supplement

The honest comparison, with your doctors, drugs, and budget deciding, not a sales pitch.

Part D Drug Plans

Your medication list tested against real drug plans, so refills never become surprises.

Doctor & Rx Verification

Every plan checked against your providers and prescriptions before you commit.

Annual Plan Reviews

Each fall I recheck your plan against what is new, and tell you honestly if staying put wins.

Bilingual Enrollment

Medicare explained plainly in English or Spanish, for you or the parent you are helping.

Help for Caregivers

Guiding a parent through Medicare? I work with families, patiently, as a team.

Extra Help & Savings

Low income subsidy and Medicare Savings Programs checked for everyone who might qualify.

Timing Is Everything

Miss a window, pay for it for life.

Medicare runs on enrollment windows, and the penalties for missing them do not expire. This is the single most valuable thing I do for clients: knowing exactly which window applies to you and acting inside it.

  • Initial Enrollment: the seven month window around your 65th birthday
  • Annual Enrollment: October 15 to December 7, when anyone can switch plans
  • Advantage Open Enrollment: January 1 to March 31, one change for Advantage members
  • Special Enrollment: moving, losing coverage, and other life events, year round

Common Questions

Answers, before you even ask.

What is the difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage?

Original Medicare is Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) run by the federal government, usually paired with a separate Part D drug plan and often a Supplement. Medicare Advantage bundles those pieces into one plan from a private insurer, frequently adding dental, vision, and hearing benefits. Neither is automatically better; the right answer depends on your doctors, medications, and budget.

When can I enroll in Medicare?

Your Initial Enrollment Period is a seven month window: the three months before your 65th birthday month, that month, and the three months after. Missing it can mean lifelong penalties, so start the conversation early. The Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7, is when existing members can switch plans.

What does a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan do?

It pays many of the costs Original Medicare leaves behind, like deductibles and the 20% coinsurance. In exchange for a monthly premium you get predictable costs and the freedom to see any doctor who accepts Medicare, anywhere in the country.

Do Medicare Advantage plans really cost $0 per month?

Some carry a $0 premium, yes, but $0 premium never means $0 cost. You still pay your Part B premium, plus copays and coinsurance when you use care. I put the real yearly numbers side by side so a flashy premium never hides an expensive plan.

Will my doctors and prescriptions be covered?

We check before you enroll, never after. Every plan on the table gets tested against your doctor list and your medication list, because a plan that does not cover your cardiologist or your prescriptions is not a deal at any price.

What does Medicare help from an agent cost?

Nothing. My guidance is free, your premium is set by the carrier and is the same with or without me, and you get a bilingual professional who answers the phone at claim time, not just at enrollment time.

I am turning 65 and still working. Do I need to enroll?

It depends on the size of your employer and how your current coverage works. Some people should take Part A only, some should enroll fully, and some can wait without penalty. This is exactly the kind of question worth a free 15 minute call before you guess.
